That Ship Has Already Sailed - Let's Boost the Norwegians

From Mark Baggesen, About.com GuideMay 8, 2009

Follow me on:

This week, Microsoft argues against the European Commission’s proposal suggesting Microsoft promote other Internet Browsers in it’s operating system. For example, buy Vista next year (for whatever reason) and during installation it may ask you if want IE8, FireFox, Chrome or Opera as your Internet software fav.

Microsoft says if that happened Google’s browsers would be on everyone’s computer, hereby “strengthening Google’s dominance in search advertising.” LOL - don't you love it when Microsoft whines; it's almost credible.

I’ve got news for you Microsoft: Google’s browser is already on a heck of a lot of Windows computers – and in record time, I might add, thanks to a huge distribution channel (google.com) and the nice folks at Apple for sharing the Safari Internet Browser code. Also, millions of Windows PCs are crammed with a slew of other Google software like Picasa, Earth and Desktop.

Maybe this is really an opportunity to make an under-appreciated group of people happy. Let’s make Opera the browser of choice for Windows 7 – the Norwegians might declare a national holiday; either way, neither Microsoft nor Google would have an unfair advantage.

For more information about Internet Browser Wars, carefully type “who cares” in your favorite search engine. To make all Norsk countrymen, Trolls, and Reindeer Herders happy, checkout Opera’s web site. Takk for maten.

A funny thing happened on the transit from Windows XP, which I always liked, to the then new Vista, which I very much like. A few stumbles at the start, but the satisfaction payoff quickly followed for many improvements.

This long-time Microsoft user quite happy with Microsoft stuff for so many years.

Waiting for next version of next operating system. Opera probably good, but……
