In a recent post I mentioned that Microsoft had unveiled details about the successor to Windows 7, Windows 8 which is expected to be released towards the end of 2012.
A new tip from a reliable source states that Windows 8 will be RTM, that is released to manufacturing in April 2012 with a single beta reaching testers in September of this year.
If this tipster is correct, we could expect a Windows 8 launch sometime in May of next year. That's a little over 10 months from now. Are you ready to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8? Or are you still running Vista/XP?

Most people have yet to migrate away from XP. Those who are running win7 are probably happy enough to stay with it. Why change unless there is a good reason to? I don’t know anyone yet with a touch screen monitor to take advantage of the touch features.
For me I’d consider it for upgrading my XP work machines, but not immediately. Give it a year or so to settle first, get most of the major issues out the way.
Perhaps MS should offer upgrade pricing for Win7 users, like Apple do for their OS updates.
I’ll probably upgrade to Win 8 shortly after it is released. The move from XP to Vista (I didn’t have problems with it) to Win 7 was always a pleasant one. However, I hope the pricing is better that it is with Win 7. I have 3 PCs to take care of, a Netbook, a laptop, and a DIY desktop. I’m not looking forward to another $300+ bill from Microsoft, but I’ll probably do it anyway to keep all 3 machines in sync and up to date. I find that even though I don’t “need” what the new OS has to offer, that it is usually such an improvement that I don’t know how I lived without it. It also might just be the impetus to get a touch screen monitor and I love to buy tech. After using a Sony Dash, a Chumby, and an iPhone, touch is a great input method. Can’t wait.
I shall probably try the beta (and RC versions) but if I buy it will be after SP1 although ‘XP’ will most likely be my system of choice. ‘7′ is normally used if I run something which is not ‘XP’ compatible.
Maybe some of the feedback about ‘7′ which wasn’t used will appear in ‘8′.
I can dream, can’t I?
