If I'm not sure what program a file was created in, I use
Windows Explorer to locate and then open the file. On occasion, however, I find myself in one program, like
Word, only to discover that my file was created in another program, like
Excel. Instead of opening the other program and browsing through all your folders again to get to the right file, use this trick to open any file from any program's open dialog box.
- Right-click on the file and point to Open with in the menu that pops up.
- The menu expands to show programs with which you can open the file. Click on the program in which you want to open the file.
