Disable AutoPlay in Vista

For Windows Vista, you can disable or configure the AutoPlay settings to your desire. Navigate to the AutoPlay Settings Menu (select Start Menu, Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, AutoPlay). At the AutoPlay settings menu, you can unselect “Use AutoPlay for all media and devices”, then click save to disable all AutoPlay features, or select an option for each individual setting.

Note: The Shift Key does not work the same in Vista as in XP. If you hold the Shift key down and load a CD/DVD into a drive, you will be shown a screen that gives you the option of selecting that AutoPlay runs all the time or going to the AutoPlay setting menu to configure it as you wish.
