How to Check Computer Specs on Windows

Task Manager and System Information are two built-in ways to do this. Third-party tools like Speccy are also helpful

What to Know

  • Task Manager: Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc, then open the Performance tab to see PC specs.
  • System Information: Press Win+R, enter the msinfo32 command, then review the System Summary section.
  • Third-party tools like Speccy are another great option. Alternatively, enter systeminfo into Command Prompt.

This article explains how to check computer specs on Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7.

Use Task Manager to See Computer Specs

Task Manager is a quick and easy way to see PC specs. It has the added benefit of letting you watch how your hardware deals with tasks in real time.

Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open it, then use the Performance tab to see all kinds of information.

Select More details if you don't see a screen similar to the one above.

Here's what you can find about your computer's specifications in Task Manager:

  • CPU: The processor type and speed (as well as the current processor load).
  • Memory: The amount of total and currently available system memory.
  • Disk: Total capacity of your hard drives, the type (HDD or SSD), and the current read and write speeds.
  • Ethernet: The adapter name, IP address, and send and receive speed.
  • Wi-Fi: Similar to Ethernet, but also the connection type (e.g., 802.11ac) and signal strength.
  • GPU: The graphical processing unit driver date and version number and stats like current utilization percentage and total GPU memory.

Get PC Specs Through System Information

System Information is the name of a utility built-in to Windows that displays all kinds of information about your computer.

To open it, press Win+R and enter msinfo32 into the box. The System Summary section lists details like the computer model number and manufacturer, information about the processor, BIOS, motherboard, memory, virtualization, and more.

Additional details are available from the left column about the modem, network, storage devices, keyboard, USB ports, drivers, services, etc.

Third-Party System Information Tools

Other programs offer detailed system information, too, but you'll need to download them to your computer. We keep a list of all the best free system information tools if you're interested in going that route. I usually recommend such software, like Speccy, if you need a super in-depth look at everything going on inside your computer.

Find Your Computer Specs in Command Prompt

Another way to see specs about your computer is to list them in Command Prompt. Open Command Prompt and enter systeminfo for the list.

This method doesn't produce as much detail as some of the other techniques described on this page, but it's easy to do and doesn't require you to download anything.

As you can see in this screenshot, you'll see general operating system details as well as the system type (32-bit or 64-bit), total and available RAM, network card information, and a few other details.
