Several Windows Vista security enhancements have been made to ensure its the most secure version of Windows available.
User Account Control is one Windows Vista security enhancement
According the Jim Allchin, the Windows chief, improvements to Windows Vista security is the "overriding feature that most people will want to have." Some of the ways that security has been imporved in Vista include:
- User Account Control - prompts you for permission before taking potentially harmful actions
- Windows Defender - protects you from spyware and other potentially dangerous software
- Parental controls - allows parents to restrict the Web content kids can view, the games kids can play, the times kids can user the computer, and the programs kids can use
- Windows Security Center - lets you view and change security settings for the Windows Firewall, Windows Update, Windows Defender, and more
- Network Access Protection - ensures computers connecting to a network meet a required level of system health
- Windows Firewall - protects against incoming attacks and prevents personal information from leaving the computer
- Windows Update - automatically install important and recommended security updates, not just critical updates like the Automatic Updates feature of XP
- Internet Explorer 7 - runs in a protected mode to prevent Web-based attacks
- Bitlocker Drive Encryption - encrypts data on computers running the Enterprise or Ultimate edition
- Digital Rights Management - helps tp protect content from copyright infringement
